Solar Repair & Troubleshooting Half Moon Bay, Pacifica & the Coastside

Your system stopped producing. Your monitoring app is showing an error. Your bill went up and you're not sure why. Whatever the symptom, we can find the problem — and fix it.

Coastside Clean Energy is based in Pacifica. We troubleshoot and repair solar systems of all makes and brands across the Coastside: Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Montara, Moss Beach, and Pacifica. We're not the company that installed your system and we don't need to be — we work on everything.

(415) 236-0015  —  Call or send us a message to describe what you're seeing
We typically respond same day. If your system has stopped producing entirely, let us know and we'll prioritize the visit.

What are you seeing?

Here are the most common problems we diagnose on the Coastside — and what they usually mean.

Monitoring shows zero or reduced production

The most common call we get. Can indicate an inverter fault, a tripped breaker, a failed microinverter on one panel, or a communication issue. Usually diagnosable remotely before we visit.

Monitoring app is offline or not updating

Could be a communication module issue, a firmware problem, or a failed gateway — not always a production issue. We diagnose monitoring systems separately from production systems.

Inverter fault light or error code

String inverters and microinverters fail more often than panels — and they're the most common repair we perform. Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, Tesla, Lunar — we service them all.

Physical damage — storm, debris, or pests

Coastside homes deal with wind, debris, and significant wildlife pressure — particularly pigeons nesting under roof arrays. We assess panel damage, racking integrity, and wiring condition after weather events or pest intrusion.

Electric bill went up but nothing changed

Often means the system has been underperforming for months — sometimes silently. We pull production history and compare it against what the system should have generated based on local irradiance data.

System is old and I don't know if it's still working properly

If your system is 8 years or older and you've never had it inspected, a diagnostic visit is worth it. Connectors corrode, sealants fail, and microinverters degrade — often without visible signs.

Why Coastside solar systems need local expertise

The marine environment along Highway 1 is harder on solar systems than most homeowners realize. Salt air accelerates corrosion on connectors, conduit fittings, and racking hardware. Marine fog creates consistent moisture exposure that inland systems don't experience. And the temperature cycling between cold coastal mornings and warmer afternoons creates stress on sealants and roof penetrations over time.

Most Bay Area solar companies are based in the East Bay or the Peninsula and treat the Coastside as a long drive they'd rather not make for a service call. We're different — Pacifica is home, and Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Montara, and Moss Beach are our neighbors.

That proximity matters for repairs. A company that quotes you a three-week wait because they're routing a van from Fremont is going to cost you three weeks of lost production. We're usually on-site within a few days of a confirmed diagnosis.

“My original installer went out of business and never completed my installation. Coastside Clean Energy helped me troubleshoot my solar, get it producing and completed the PG&E paperwork for me. They were patient, competent, and responsive. I would highly recommend them.”

Montara, CA

“Coastside Clean Energy was a pleasure to work with. They were very clear on what needed to be done and how long it would take. There estimate on how long the permits would take was spot on. Good communication on when they would be working and how long my power would be out. Would definitely work with them again.”

How a service call works

1. Tell us what you're seeing

Call, text, or fill out the form below with a brief description of the issue. If you have a monitoring app, tell us the platform (Enphase Enlighten, SolarEdge mySolarEdge, Tesla app) and what error codes or readings you're seeing. We can often narrow down the cause before we arrive.

2. We schedule a diagnostic visit

We confirm a time that works for you and come to the property. The diagnostic visit covers a full assessment of the system — production, wiring, inverters, racking, roof penetrations, and monitoring. Most diagnostics take one to two hours.

3. You get a clear diagnosis and a fixed-price repair quote

After the visit, we explain what we found in plain language and give you a written quote for any repairs. No surprises, no pressure. If the repair is minor and we have parts on hand, we often complete it same-day.

4. Repair and verification

We complete the repair, verify production is back to expected levels, and confirm your monitoring is reporting correctly before we leave. You'll also get a written record of what was done for your files.

Sometimes a repair is the start of something bigger

A lot of our best customer relationships started with a repair call. Once we're on-site and the system is working again, it's a natural moment to talk about what's changed since the system was first installed — NEM 3.0 rate structures, battery storage economics, panel upgrade options, or EV charging if you've added a car.

We're happy to just fix the thing and leave. But if you want a bigger picture conversation, we're here for that too.

For commercial properties, we also offer full energy audits for South San Francisco businesses.

We also handle solar panel removal & reinstallation for roof replacements
If you're getting a new roof and need your panels temporarily removed, we coordinate directly with your roofer and handle the full removal, storage, and reinstallation. This is a common service on the Coastside, where aging wood-shake roofs often need replacement before homeowners expect.

Neighborhoods we serve on the coast.

We work up and down the coast including the Sunset/ Richmond Districts, Daly City, Pacifica, Montara, Moss Beach, El Granada, Half Moon Bay, and more. Not sure if we cover your neighborhood? Reach out (415) 236-0015— we'd love to take a look.

Common Questions

  • Yes — almost all of our repair work is on systems installed by other companies. We don't require any prior relationship to service your system, and we work on all major brands and configurations.

  • We charge a flat diagnostic fee for the site visit, which covers the full assessment and report. If you proceed with the repair, the diagnostic fee is applied toward the repair cost. We'll give you the diagnostic fee upfront before you book.

  • If your system is within the workmanship warranty period (typically 10 years) and the original installer is still operating, it's worth a call to them first. If they're unresponsive, out of business, or the wait is unreasonable, we can assess the system and document the issue for any warranty claim you may pursue.

  • Sometimes, yes. If you can share your monitoring platform and the error codes or readings you're seeing, we can often give you a probable cause before the visit. Call or text us with that information and we'll give you an honest assessment of what it might be.

  • We can diagnose and assess any system. If your system is under an active SolarCity or Tesla lease, Tesla Energy is technically responsible for maintenance under the lease terms — but many customers find their response times frustrating. We can help you understand what's wrong and what your options are.

  • Yes. Pacifica is our home base and we serve the full Coastside: Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Montara, Moss Beach, and Pacifica. We also serve San Francisco, San Mateo County, and the greater Bay Area for larger projects.

Let's figure out what's going on.
